The human brain represents roughly 2% of your body weight but consumes approximately 20% of your total oxygen supply. When oxygen delivery to the brain is compromised — whether through injury, inflammation, vascular dysfunction, or metabolic disruption — the consequences are profound and far-reaching.
The brain consumes approximately 20% of the body’s total oxygen supply despite representing only 2% of body weight — making it the most oxygen-dependent organ in the human body.

What Is Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (mHBOT) involves breathing concentrated oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The increased atmospheric pressure allows significantly more oxygen to dissolve into the blood plasma, cerebrospinal fluid, and tissues — delivering oxygen to areas of the brain that may be receiving inadequate supply through normal circulation.
Unlike traditional hyperbaric oxygen therapy used in hospital settings (which operates at much higher pressures), mild HBOT operates at lower, gentler pressures that are well-tolerated and carry minimal risk. It’s one of the safest therapeutic interventions available in integrative medicine.
“Oxygen is not just fuel for the brain — it’s the foundation of every repair process, every anti-inflammatory pathway, and every neuroplastic change the brain is capable of making.”
The Mechanisms of Healing
- Reduces neuroinflammation by modulating inflammatory cytokines
- Supports angiogenesis — the growth of new blood vessels in oxygen-deprived tissue
- Enhances mitochondrial function and cellular energy production
- Promotes stem cell mobilization and neuroplasticity
- Supports the blood-brain barrier integrity
- Accelerates tissue repair following injury
Who Benefits Most?
At Brain Restore Centers, we see the most dramatic responses to mHBOT in clients dealing with traumatic brain injury, post-concussion syndrome, long-COVID neurological symptoms, and neurodegenerative conditions. But the reality is that any brain health condition involving inflammation, reduced blood flow, or metabolic compromise can benefit from improved oxygen delivery.
As the second pillar of our 4-Pillar system, mHBOT works synergistically with photobiomodulation — together, they create the energetic and oxygenation foundation that makes the metabolic healing and network resetting pillars dramatically more effective.
